researcher, writer, technologist, speaker.
I’m an interdisciplinary researcher interested in how language and technology impact on society. I am an assistant professor in computer science and digital humanities at Durham University.
My work focuses on socio-technical understandings and ethical implications of technologies. I conduct research on human-machine interactions and inequities and biases in AI systems. I take a human-centred approach to critically evaluate technical systems and imagine what more equitable socio-technical futures could look like.
I co-lead the EquiAI network with Professor Sue Black to support dialogue and collaboration across academia and industry to advance responsible AI practice.
